• WHATYOUTH – SINCERELY SUBURBIA

    Jun 19 • Surf • 3 Views

Sincerely Suburbia is the final salute to a film and a moment we’re rather fond of. Shot around the globe in 2012, this film was pulled off the cutting room floor for Dear Suburbia, Kai Neville’s award winning surf film. Sincerely Suburbia stars Dane Reynolds, Kolohe Andino, Conner Coffin, Jay Davies and Mitch Coleborn with cameos by Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow and Cory Lopez.

Aside from putting an end dot on our last project, the release of Sincerely Suburbia marks the beginning of the most exciting part of what we do: hitting the road and starting all over again. Which we’re doing immediately, already filling hard drives with visions of late nights and long flight and tons of surfing. Don’t forget to come along every day at WhatYouth.com

  • Playboy Presents “Poolside”

    Jun 19 • Skate • 4 Views

Playboy staff photographer Tony Kelly gathered Tony Alva, Stevie Williams, Arto Saari and Brandon Biebel for his most recent “Poolside” shoot. The guys do what they do best – each of them tear up the pool in some of the cleanest attire around. The guys seem to be wearing Vans predominately although I think I saw a Nike Roshe Run for a moment; or maybe my eyes are playing tricks.

    Audi Sport Quattro Concept

    Jun 19 • Auto, Culture • 11 Views

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Quattro, Audi is reportedly planning to unveil a production version of the 2010 Quattro Concept. Intended to be a tribute to the original and legendary 1984 Sport Quattro, the Quattro Concept looked fantastic when it was originally unveiled and was powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder that produced around 380 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Reports suggest that the automaker is planning to debut a production version at Frankfurt this September. The new Quattro will have a “sharper” shape than the concept and will also incorporate a number of lightweight components such as carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium. Rumors are suggesting that the production car could end up being powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that’s good for around 650 hp and will likely sticker for around $150,000 USD. Continue Reading

  • Lucas Nord feat. Tove Lo – Run On Love

    Jun 18 • Culture, Music • 26 Views

Since we last wrote about up-and-coming Swedish pop singer Tove Lo back in October 2012, she’s gone on to release one of this year’s best singles in the shape the brutally honest break-up confessional Habits. Rather than detail how she’s been moping around in front of the TV eating ice cream, the song opens with the arresting line: “I eat my dinner in my bathtub, then I go to sex clubs watching freaky people getting it on”. It’s only during the yearning chorus that a part-time solution to the heartbreak manifests itself: “You’re gone and I got to stay high all the time to keep you off my mind.” It’s that frankness, coupled with the grit that underpins her vocals, that sets Lo apart from her Scandinavian counterparts and makes her performance on fellow Swede Lucas Nord’s Run On Love one of the best vocals on-a-song-American’s-would-call-EDM since Sia on Guetta’s Titanium. Opening with a delicate electronic pulse, the song starts to build towards a chorus that hinges on Lo’s anguished cry of “We can run on love for a while, we can run on love ’til it dies”, and simmers back down as she sings “I always go back to you.” For the interestingly-shot POV video, Lo is shown hanging out the window of speeding cars, enjoying a beer on a sun-kissed rooftop and, with crushing inevitability, breaking up with her unseen paramour by the song’s end.

  • Tove Lo – Habits

    Jun 18 • Culture, Music • 13 Views

What might Ke$ha sound like if she were very sad? That’s a question Tove Lo, another addition to Stockholm’s excellent crop of of pop singers, might be trying to answer. On “Habits”, she copes with lost love in ways that are entirely customary but not often explored in song lyrics: by indulging slovenly habits, eating food in the bathtub (paging Lena Dunham!), getting drunk at the club, binging on baked goods afterward and then passing out. A click-pop beat and a huge hook are enough to make the experience of drunk munchies sound gracefully sad instead of tragic.

Smallpools is and indie pop / alternative band from Los Angeles, CA, United States. Formed in early 2013, the group released their debut single “Dreaming” on RCA Records, May 21, 2013. Thanks to catchy guitar hooks and internet blogs, Smallpools’ “Dreaming” is now spreading like wildfire. “Dreaming” skyrocketed to the top of the HypeMachine chart in just hours. Dreaming had hit over 20,000 plays on Soundcloud before the band even hit 500 “likes” on Facebook (Stereofox). Producing dangerously catchy dance oriented indie music, comparable to that of Passion Pit and Youngblood Hawke, Smallpools appears to be destined for more than just #1 on HypeMachine.
